Mr. Prieto joined Tailwater in November 2021 and is responsible for leading Tailwater E&P, which oversees the firm’s mineral, royalty, and non-operated funds. In addition, Tailwater E&P plays a key role in the evaluation and ongoing management of the firm’s operated upstream investments, along with technical evaluation of its midstream investments. Mr. Prieto serves on the boards of Pivotal Petroleum Partners, Pivotal Petroleum Partners II and Pivotal Royalties Partners.

Mr. Prieto has over 16 years of experience in the energy industry. Prior to joining the Tailwater team, Mr. Prieto served as Vice President of Land and Midstream for Concho Resources, Inc. until its sale to ConocoPhillips. In this position, he led multiple departments within Concho, including the owner relations group and joint interest ventures group, which oversaw Concho’s non-operated, mineral and royalty portfolios. Prior to joining Concho, Mr. Prieto was a member of the management team of three private equity sponsored portfolio companies, most recently serving as Chief Commercial Officer of Atlantic Resources Company, LLC, where he was responsible for the business development, land and legal functions of the company. Mr. Prieto began his career at Lynch, Chappell & Alsup, P.C. in Midland, Texas, where his practice was concentrated in the areas of business law and oil and gas, with a particular emphasis on general corporate transactions, the preparation of title opinions, the negotiation and documentation of all phases of oil and gas transactions, and the coordination of various activities related to the acquisition and divestiture of oil and gas properties.

Mr. Prieto received his Juris Doctorate and Master of Business Administration degrees from Texas Tech University in May of 2006 and earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in December of 2002, with minors in Business and Spanish. Mr. Prieto is a member of the IPAA Capital Markets Committee and serves on the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of Dallas, Inc., Metroplex Energy Tennis Tournament, and Practice Ministries.
